Sigma
Kappa Sorority is a social organization of collegiate and alumnae women committed
to promoting the ideals of life-long friendship, intellectual and spiritual
fulfillment and service for the greater good. Our chapter offers leadership
opportunities for members by serving as officers and committee chairs. We also
focus on philanthropic and community activities for the Inherit the Earth, Alzheimer's
Disease, and the Maine Sea Coast Mission. We participate in the annual Alzheimer's
Memory Walk held at Audubon Park in the Fall. Some of our social events include
Sisterhood Retreat, a Luau, Unbirthday Birthday Party, Mystic Pizza Sisterhood,
Crazy Dinners, picnics in the UNO quad, Christmas Tea, Winter Pearl Ball, Violet
Ball, Purple Haze Party, exchanges with UNO fraternities, and a whole lot more!
Each new member receives a Big Sis who serves as her mentor. The sorority's
colors are lavender and maroon. The violet is our national flower. The official
symbols of Sigma Kappa are the dove and the heart.
