Information for Potential Members of UNO Fraternities & Sororities

Joining a Greek organization is one of the best ways to get involved at the University of New Orleans. Fraternity and sorority members hold leadership positions in Student Government, Student Activities Council, Progressive Black Student Union, the Driftwood campus newspaper, professional organizations, the UNO Honors program, and a variety of honor societies.

Meet the Greeks

New and continuing students who are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority are encouraged to attend our Meet the Greeks event on Thursday, August 23, from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Deck Area on the 1st Floor of the University Center.

The Meet the Greeks program allows potential members to learn about each of our organizations and their membership requirements, to talk informally with members of fraternities and sororities, and to register for recruitment. The event is conducted in an open house format, so you can come at any time and stay as long as you are able.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment

IFC coordinates a recruitment period each fall to introduce interested men to its fraternities (Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Theta, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Xi). IFC Recruitment gives potential members the opportunity to meet members of each fraternity. During this period, the fraternities will decide which recruits they wish to invite into membership, and the recruits will choose which fraternity they wish to join.

The following events are part of IFC Recruitment. All interested men should attend AT LEAST one of these:

IFC Flag Football: Thursday, August 23 - The Quad, 12 - 3 p.m.
Meet the Greeks: Thursday, August 23 - University Center 1st Floor, 6 - 8 p.m.
IFC Sports: Tuesday, August 30 - The Quad, 12 - 3 p.m.

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Fraternity and Sorority Membership Intake

NPHC fraternities and sororities (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.) bring in new members at different times of the year through a process called Membership Intake. Each NPHC group has different requirements for membership, and each conducts intake on its own schedule. Information about individual organizations' requirements will be available at the Meet the Greek social (see above). More information about the NPHC groups and intake is available on the NPHC page.

Several of the NPHC fraternities and sororities are holding interest/informational meetings or other events that will introduce the UNO community to what their organizations are about. (Events will be added as they become available.)

Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment

The Panhellenic sororities (Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Sigma Kappa, and Zeta Tau Alpha) bring in new members through a process called Membership Recruitment (formerly known as "Rush"). Panhellenic sponsors a Recruitment period each year, during which a series of organized events is held by each sorority.

Recruitment will be held Monday, September 10 - Saturday, September 15
Specific details about recruitment, including registration information is available on the Panhellenic Association Recruitment page.
